David began directing for theatre in 1981, and has since directed for various theatre companies in the UK and Europe, as well as in Canada and the USA. In 2002 he began directing for camera, and has subsequently directed several films, from three-minute shorts to half-hour comedies. On top of this he has written several films, as well as writing and directing documentary-style films for various bodies such as Road Safety.

His writing work extends to corporate seminars for training and discussion, writing pieces for Lothian Police, St. Margaret's Hospice and numerous councils including Clackmannan Carers, Inverclyde Forum and Argyll & Bute Health Board
